At Howl we specialise in journeying skills, the Bushcraft we practice and teach is that of the traveler. There is a wonderful simplicity that comes from taking a trip in the outdoors, a pragmatism gleaned from necessity. We draw from this experience in the field to teach a set of skills and knowledge based in expedience and realism, skills that actually get used while outdoors. We provide an insight into the Natural world, opening up a vast array of natural resources and knowledge to help you travel with less reliance on the contents of your rucksack: it’s what you carry in your mind that matters.

We teach these practical skills in a friendly and open way, our hope being to enable you to make your adventures into the Great Outdoors memorable and enjoyable. We'll help you cultivate a positive attitude, a confidence in yourself, and a connection with the natural world through which you travel.

We promote the utmost respect for the environment, the ability to pass unnoticed through the woods brings with it a deeper understanding of the wilderness, and our part in it. It is this philosophy which forms the very core of our work.

Wilma's Leather Cream

£14.30

Wilma's natural products are made in Swedish Lapland, and utilise the knowledge and techniques that have been preserved for generations by the people who live and work in the northern forest.

A woodsman, working on a winter's day in the deep snow of the forest, simply had to have waterproof shoes. Before the days of synthetic and rubber footwear, leather boots had to be treated with something to keep them water tight.

Bear Cream is a leather lubrication of the old-fashioned variety, made using the finest natural ingredients such as lanolin, pine tar, birch oil and spruce resin. Lanolin, a natural fat derived from sheep's wool, is known to be good for the skin, and what is good for the skin is also good for leather! Wilmas "Kängskosmorning" or Boot Grease penetrates deep into the leather, making it soft and giving it sound water repellant properties. It will also give a soft, antique colouration to light leather after repeated use, and brings a scent of the forest to your boots.

It can be used on footwear as well as leather rucksacks, pouches and sheaths for knives and axes.

This wonderful, highly aromatic grease has been a favourite of mine for many years. I use my fingers to apply the cream to my clean, dry boots. The warm of my hands melts the cream and helps it penetrate the leather. I’ve found nothing on the market yet which works quite so well. I have however been made to treat my boots in the garden, as the fantastic woodsmoke and pine smell is not so well received in the living room. - Jamie Dakota
