At Howl we specialise in journeying skills, the Bushcraft we practice and teach is that of the traveler. There is a wonderful simplicity that comes from taking a trip in the outdoors, a pragmatism gleaned from necessity. We draw from this experience in the field to teach a set of skills and knowledge based in expedience and realism, skills that actually get used while outdoors. We provide an insight into the Natural world, opening up a vast array of natural resources and knowledge to help you travel with less reliance on the contents of your rucksack: it’s what you carry in your mind that matters.

We teach these practical skills in a friendly and open way, our hope being to enable you to make your adventures into the Great Outdoors memorable and enjoyable. We'll help you cultivate a positive attitude, a confidence in yourself, and a connection with the natural world through which you travel.

We promote the utmost respect for the environment, the ability to pass unnoticed through the woods brings with it a deeper understanding of the wilderness, and our part in it. It is this philosophy which forms the very core of our work.

SLIP BACK

NEW! A UK LEGAL NON-LOCKING FOLDING KNIFE

This versatile and tough little folder will be able to perform 90% of the tasks required of a knife, whilst being a UK legal carry, meaning it will be perfect as your outdoors EDC. There should be no reason to leave the home without it. The original version, the Lars Fält Lock Back knife, took first place at the 2019 Blade Show in Atlanta USA (Knife Collaboration of the Year Award) despite the fierce competition from much bigger companies in this category. Since knife laws vary across the world, we strongly felt that it was essential to also make a non-locking slip joint model to allow users in, for example, the UK, to have access to this great model and not worry about whether they are legally allowed to carry it or not.

It has a Scandinavian grind to make it easy to carve with and easy to sharpen in the field. The stylish and durable handle is made from carefully selected fine curly birch.

Technical data:

  • Blade length: 7,3cm

  • Total length: 17,8cm

  • Maximum blade thickness: 2,8mm

  • Exact steel grade: Böhler N690 Hardness in HRC: 58-59

  • Weight 100g

  • Handle material: High grade Curly birch

LOCKBACK

The sturdy 7.5cm long, c.3mm thick blade in Böhler N690 stainless steel (hardness 59 HRC) will accomplish most tasks, being especially useful around camp. The Lars Fält Lock Back will provide a competent and reliable knife when out in the field. The full scandi grind gives versatility and is easily maintained, while the handle of carefully selected curly birch gives the knife a traditional Scandinavian look and feel.

About the steel N690:  Is a cobalt-enriched steel from Austrian Böhler. N690 shares some properties with other cobalt-enriched steels, e.g. ATS-55 and VG-10. The cobalt increases the wear resistance of the blade thanks to the even crystal structure.
